The EASO Policy Conference 2018 – “Obesity Policy in Europe: the need for Education, Treatment and Care” will take place on Thursday 17th May at the Renaissance Hotel in Brussels. The event is being held in conjunction with European Obesity Day (EOD) 2018 and follows-up to the very successful EASO policy conference held in May 2017, which was attended by more than 100 policymakers, including representatives of the European Institutions and Member State health authorities.
Topics to be addressed will include:
- the concept of patient centric care;
- the importance of treatment strategies in national obesity policies;
- the role of a GP in obesity management and the need for obesity related training;
- the need for better education in prevention and care;
- case studies from Member States, including the Netherlands, Portugal and Switzerland.
The event will be chaired by John Bowis, former UK Minister of Health and former MEP and MP. Speakers will include representatives from the EU institutions, OECD, EASO, EU Member State Permanent Representations, academia, EU disease, healthcare professionals and therapeutic associations and others.
EU and national policymakers, politicians, representatives from national representations and ministries, obesity specialists, healthcare professionals, and organisations representing the many diseases on which obesity impacts are welcome to attend the conference. The event will be followed by a cocktail, which will be an excellent opportunity to network with peers and colleagues from other countries, as well as to meet with EU officials, obesity experts, WHO and OECD representatives.
The conference will be held at the Renaissance Hotel, Rue du Parnasse 19, 1050 Brussels, Tel: +32 2 505 29 29.
The hotel is within easy walking distance of the European Commission and is almost next to the European Parliament.
